Our TL;DR history

Indochinese Economics Education Initiative (IEEI) was an NGO operating in Southeast Asia. We advocated for an innovative approach in economics education and the education of financial literacy for Southeast Asian youth generations. IEEI was founded by many passionate students from Vietnam, Laos and the Philippines. The movement quickly gained widespread support and has established independent chapters across four Southeast Asian nations by 2017.

IEEI underwent significant restructuring in 2018, leading to the creation of a successor- Global Association of Economics Education (GAEE). GAEE is incorporated in the United States of America as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organisation and now operates in 8 countries. Although GAEE strives to share most of its view with the former IEEI, various independent chapters chose to re-establish under Rethinking Economics and International Association of Economics. Nonetheless, we all share the same vision as the incubators for future economists, financiers and entrepreneurs, as well as the pioneers for the reform of economics education.

Former chapters of IEEI occasionally come back to where they all started in a uniform effort to enrich the Southeast Asian region. In the past two years, the International Association of Economics with its IAE Indo-Pacific Economist Conference 2018 and Global Association of Economics Education with its GAEE's Southeast Asia Summit Week 2019 continue to show the commitment of former IEEI's chapters in the betterment of the region.
